Rebels fall 5-2 in Brandon

The Red Deer Rebels failed to make it two wins in a row Tuesday night as they fell 5-2 to the Brandon Wheat Kings in the third game of their eastern road trip.

Ben McCartney opened the scoring for Brandon 4:40 into the opening period. Arshdeep Bains replied for the Rebels with his third goal of the season at the 9:58 mark.

Luka Burzan scored 1:22 into period two for the Wheat Kings. McCartney struck for his second goal of the night and ninth of the season about six minutes later to make it 3-1.

Nolan Ritchie netted another one for the Wheat Kings at 15:23 to send them to the third period with a sizeable 4-1 lead.

Duncan Pierce scored on a shorthanded penalty shot 5:03 into period three for what would be Brandon’s final goal on the night.

Mason Ward had a highlight moment as the young defenceman scored his first WHL goal for the Rebels with 2:13 left to play.

Byron Fancy got the start in net for Red Deer and gave up five goals in 38 shots against. Ethan Kruger turned aside 23 of the 25 shots the Rebels fired on goal.

Neither team scored a power play goal on the night as the Rebels were 0-for-4 and Brandon 0-for-6.

The Rebels are right back in action Wednesday night as they continue their eastern road trip by paying their first ever visit to Winnipeg to take on the ICE. Game time on 106.7 THE DRIVE is at 6 p.m.
