Rebels’ Anders named WHL Goaltender of the Week

Red Deer Rebels netminder Ethan Anders is the Western Hockey League Eli Wilson Goaltending Goaltender of the Week.

The 20-year-old was also named to the CHL Team of the Week.

In three games this past week, Anders posted a 3-0-0-0 record, 1.66 goals-against average, and stopped 100 of 105 shots for a .952 save for the Rebels.

The Pilot Butte, SK native’s week began Tuesday with a 34-save performance in a 2-1 win over the Saskatoon Blades at the Westerner Park Centrium.

Anders then stopped 27 of 28 shots in a 5-1 win road win over the Swift Current Broncos on Friday. He closed out his weekend with a 39-save performance in a 4-3 overtime win Saturday night in Medicine Hat.

In all three contests, Anders was named first star of the game.

Anders is enjoying a strong start to the 2019-20 WHL Regular Season. In six games, he’s compiled a 4-2-0-0 record, 2.34 GAA, and a .933 SV%. He’s currently tied for first in the WHL for wins, tied for eighth in save percentage, and 14th in GAA.

The Rebels return to home ice Friday, October 11 (7:00 p.m.) when they welcome the Portland Winterhawks to Westerner Park Centrium.
