Lacombe runners claim RDC Athlete of the Week awards

Oct 1, 2019 | 10:16 AM

Red Deer College Athletics is proud to announce the Bedford Food Company Athletes of the Week.

Caitlin Debree – Queens Cross Country Running
Hometown – Lacombe, AB
Bachelor of Kinesiology (2nd year)

Debree (26:31) contributed a heart-and-soul effort for the RDC Queens Cross Country Running team at Running Room Grand Prix #4 on September 28.

The second-year Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) runner really stepped up in the absence of 2018-19 All-Conference selection Jill Stewart, helping guide the Queens to second spot among ACAC female teams in Calgary.

Individually, the Bachelor of Kinesiology student finished eighth over 6 km and was a very positive factor for her squad in challenging weather.

Daniel Szucs – Kings Cross Country Running
Hometown – Lacombe, AB
Business Administration General Management (2nd year)

This past Saturday, Szucs had a tremendous race for the Kings Cross Country Running team in Calgary.

Despite the snowy and cool weather conditions, the Business Administration General Management student put forth an outstanding effort, helping lead the Kings to first place as a group among participating ACAC male teams.

The runner from Lacombe was the fastest member of the RDC Kings, completing the 8 km race in 28:42. His impressive time placed him third overall in the ACAC men’s category, only 31 seconds behind first place Michio Green from the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings.

Both Dubree and Szucs will compete in the Willamette Charles Bowles Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, October 5.
