Innisfail council approves downtown clock project

A Town Clock will soon be on its way to downtown Innisfail.

This, after council approved this week a proposal from the Innisfail Downtown Business Association (IDBA) to construct a Town Clock at the intersection of 50 Avenue and 50 Street in front of the ATB.

The idea was first presented to council last October, with council at the time agreeing to have Town staff look into the scope and cost of the project.

Officials say IDBA has accumulated $12,000 to put towards the clock’s $35,000 total cost, while the Rotary Club of Innisfail has committed $6,000 to the project.

The remaining $17,000 cost will be funded from the Town’s General Capital Reserves.

Based on information provided by the supplier, Town officials say maintenance of the clock would consist of annual inspection, lubrication and cleaning, a task that would take two to three hours and could be completed by Public Works staff or a local electrician.

Town officials say the clock will replace the existing picnic table in front of the ATB.

Shipping is anticipated to be 10-12 weeks.
