Temporary overdose prevention site extending hours

Oct 25, 2018 | 4:16 PM

Hours are being extended at the temporary overdose prevention site (OPS) operated by Turning Point.

Open since October 1 in Red Deer’s railyards area (next to Safe Harbour), the ATCO trailer has been open from 12-8 p.m. each day for drug users to come and use in a safe environment where immediate overdose intervention is available.

Starting Nov. 3, hours will be 8 a.m. until midnight.

“This will not only mean that there is additional availability and access to the service, but also on-site security for extended hours,” says Stacey Carmichael, Executive Director of Turning Point. “It’s a win-win for everyone.”
