Rock concert in support of youth skateboarding

An event coming to Red Deer next month will benefit local youth interested in skateboarding.
The Let the Kids Skate fundraiser goes Sept. 6 at Bo’s Bar and Stage and will feature Canadian indie rock band Hollerado. The event is hosted by the Academy Skateboard Collective, Central Alberta Skateboard Association (CASA) and 106.7 The Drive.
“The target is marginalized youth or kids living in isolated communities, getting them access to recreation and in this case skateboarding,” says Everett Tetz, founder of the collective. “But it’s also about using skateboarding as a bridge to break down social barriers, get them reconnected to their schools or community services and then build capacity for youth leadership and mentorship within the skate community.”
Tetz, who is from Red Deer, says through the event they hope to raise enough money to purchase 200 new skateboards.
