Dayton Sutherland wins Battle of the Rockies, Bensmiller claims season title

Kurt Bensmiller won his third career WPCA World Chuckwagon Championship as the as the 2018 Battle of the Rockies Championship wrapped up in Rocky Mountain House on Sunday.

Bensmiller finished 94.5 points ahead of Vern Nolin atop the overall season standings. Former World Champion Kirk Sutherland was third, Evan Salmond was fourth and four-time World Champion Jason Glass placed fifth. Rory Gervais captured his first career World Outriding title as well.

Dayton Sutherland, driving the York Realty outfit, and outriders Casey Knight and Rory Gervais, emerged as champions of the 2018 Battle of the Rockies after posting the best four-day aggregate time of 5:03.12. That put him 2.43 seconds in front of runner-up Doug Irvine. It’s the first career show win for Dayton Sutherland as a chuckwagon driver.
