A man arrested in connection with the shooting of a German tourist on Highway 1A near Morley, Alberta August 2 has now been released.

RCMP say no charges have been laid against the man who was arrested on August 3, however their investigation remains ongoing.

According to Mounties, the 60-year-old male victim who was shot remains in hospital, still in critical, but stable condition and his family very appreciative of the support they’ve received.

Mounties say the driver of the R.V. who witnessed the incident did contact Cochrane RCMP and the media is thanked for getting the message out.

Cochrane RCMP and the Calgary General Investigation Section are said to be continuing to follow up on leads and are pursuing all avenues.

However, an update will not be provided until police have confirmed information to relay to the public.

“We know how much the public is interested, and wanting an update on this terrible incident, but we are mindful of not compromising our investigation” says Inspector Lauren Weare, Officer in Charge of Cochrane Detachment, in a press release. “A solid investigation which will stand the tests of the court is methodical and takes time. We thank the public for their patience while our members focus on their tasks.”

The investigation began August 2 when RCMP say a man driving west along Highway 1A near Morley, Alberta suffered a head wound from a gun, causing his vehicle to crash.

Three other occupants in the vehicle sustained minor injuries, while the driver was transported to Calgary via STARS air ambulance.
