Two people from Red Deer face multiple charges following a dangerous driving, flight from police incident near Medicine Hat Thursday morning.

RCMP say it began in the early morning hours of August 2 when Mounties witnessed a silver Dodge Neon driving erratically in the westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway near Redcliff.

It’s reported the car then turned around and drove eastbound in the westbound lanes into oncoming traffic with the headlights turned off.

While entering the City of Medicine Hat, police say the car drove into a ditch and became stuck, causing the male driver and female passenger to flee.

RCMP and members of the Medicine Hat Police Service were both on scene and found both suspects behind some nearby dumpsters.

Mounties say the license plate on the car was found to be stolen.

Christopher Hayward, 37, is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police officer, possession of break-in instruments and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He remains in custody for a court appearance in Medicine Hat August 7.

Jesse Ann Shiach, 24, is charged with possession of break-in instruments and possession of stolen property under $5,000. She was released to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court August 15.

Anyone with information regarding Hayward or Shiach is asked to call their local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
