Dreeshen named UCP Trade Critic

Newly-elected Innisfail-Sylvan Lake MLA Devin Dreeshen has been named to the UCP shadow cabinet.

United Conservative Leader Jason Kenney has appointed Dreeshen as the party’s Trade Critic.

“I’m humbled to be asked to take on a portfolio of such critical importance to Alberta’s economic health and prosperity,” Dreeshen said in a release. “With issues like the renegotiation of NAFTA and securing market access for our oil and gas, trade impacts all Albertans, including the people of Innisfail-Sylvan Lake and I look forward to representing their interests.”

Dreeshen won a by-election in the Innisfail-Sylvan Lake riding on July 12 and recently completed the MLA orientation program.

“The NDP unfortunately supports a carbon tax and regulations that hurt the competitiveness of Alberta industries,” Dreeshen added. “The NDP acts as cheerleaders for Trudeau’s Liberals who continue to fumble through NAFTA negotiations.

“Albertans deserve better. We will hold the NDP accountable while promoting Alberta’s interests.”

In his time with the Harper Government, Dreeshen represented Canada on numerous international trade missions, working to promote free trade, market access, and reduced trade barriers for Canada in Hong Kong, Beijing, Moscow, Istanbul and the U.S.

Kenney has also named Laila Goodridge as the party’s Seniors, Housing, and Multiculturalism Critic.
