Hear the full conversation with Lori Shatto of The Lending Cupboard on the April 24, 2026 episode of The Everything Red Deer Podcast!

The Lending Cupboard’s 15th annual Ladies’ Luncheon is fast approaching.

The extremely fun event goes 11-2 on May 7 at the Red Deer Resort & Casino, featuring an extraordinary lunch, a fashion show, raffle prizes, and much more, including the chance to celebrate 15 years of connection, generosity, and meaningful impact.

All the while, it’s a chance for local women to connect, network, and support one another in strengthening the community, plus raise some money for an organization that provides a critical service to Red Deer and central Alberta.

While the event is primarily geared towards women, all are welcome, and none will be turned away if they’d like to support the cause.

“Quite simply put, we lend out medical equipment totally free to anyone who needs it in central Alberta. So just like you would go to the library to pick up a book, you can come here and you can get some medical equipment, whatever you’re needing,” explains Lori Shatto, executive director.

“We have over 16,000 pieces of equipment in our inventory, everything from wheelchairs and crutches, to more specialized pieces such as patient lifts and bath lifts. We have walkers, rollators, all those pieces of equipment here to help folks who are maybe recovering from surgery, wishing to age-in-place or had an accident, or need end-of-life care. That is why The Lending Cupboard is here. We’re here to support everyone in getting back to mobility, independence, and on their health journey.”

Shatto says Red Deer is very generous, and that’s how they both come by all that equipment, and are able to fundraise enough money to cover 75 per cent of their annual budget. About a quarter comes from the provincial government, she shares.

If you need The Lending Cupboard or simply want a tour, they are located at 7803 50 Avenue.

Tickets for the Ladies’ Luncheon are $50 and can be purchased at lendingcupboard.ca.
