A student at Red Deer’s Notre Dame High School will attend the prestigious SHAD Canada program this summer.

Scarlett Reed, a Grade 10 student, will attend SHAD, which is a nationally recognized, highly competitive initiative that has empowered exceptional Canadian youth for over 45 years.

Reed will embark on a transformative one-month residency at one of 20 participating Canadian university campuses.

During the immersive month-long program, she will live on campus, dive into hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) and entrepreneurship workshops, and engage in vital career exploration. The experience also offers a unique opportunity to network directly with leading post-secondary faculty and industry experts, according to Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools.

“We are incredibly proud to congratulate Scarlett on being selected for the prestigious Shad Canada program. Scarlett’s curiosity, determination, and passion for learning have made her a leader within our school community, and this opportunity is a testament to her hard work and commitment to excellence,” says Teresa Bochers, principal at Notre Dame.

“Through her involvement in school and community initiatives, she consistently demonstrates creativity, collaboration, and a drive to make a positive impact. We are excited to see her further develop her leadership, STEAM, and entrepreneurial skills through this exceptional experience.”

Reed adds she is excited to attend and take advantage of the opportunity to discover university courses and avenues prior to graduation.
