‘She loved to play outside: Regina girl found under snow dies in hospital

A neighbour who did not want to be named said her children and others in the neighbourhood had been playing outside in the snow earlier in the day. The city was dumped with snow in recent days and school buses haven’t been running.

Her husband was out blowing snow after supper when he heard sirens.

She described the girl as an only child who played hide-and-seek with other kids on the block and was kind enough to often carry her young son’s backpack off the bus.

“She was always energetic and vibrant and always involved with the neighbourhood kids,” said the neighbour.

“She loved to play outside.”

Regina Catholic Schools said the girl was a Grade 7 student at École St. Elizabeth School. The school has brought in grief counsellors to help students and staff.

The principal of École St. Elizabeth School sent an email to parents informing them of the death.

Popowich said victim services staff are working with the family and they have asked for privacy.
