Alberta Peace Officers concerned about extreme speeders

EDMONTON – Alberta’s community peace officers had a busy April trying to keep the roads and highways safe.

Peace officers pulled over thousands of motorists and issued more than 3600 speeding tickets.

Of particular concern was the high number of drivers caught traveling more than 50 kilometers per hour over the speed limit.

“With the nice weather and better road conditions, we often find that drivers feel overconfident,” explains the Alberta Association of Community Peace Officers Information Officer, William Norton. “While speeding in school zones, construction zones and past emergencies vehicles concerns us, we have grave concerns about the number of extreme speeders our officers have pulled over. We know that speed is a factor in most fatal collisions in Alberta.”
