The Midget AAA Red Deer Optimist Chiefs are one win away from clinching first place in the Alberta Midget Hockey League's Chrysler (South) Division and first place overall in the regular season. The Chiefs wrap-up their regular season with a home game against the Calgary Royals at the Servus Arena Feb 18 and will have a bye in the first-round of the playoffs before competing in the division semi-finals next month.

Optimist Chiefs one win away from clinching division pennant

The Midget AAA Red Deer Optimist Chiefs are one win away from clinching first place in the Alberta Midget Hockey League’s Chrysler Division, and first place overall.

This after an 8-3 victory over Edmonton CAC Gregg Distributors at the Servus Arena in Red Deer on Sunday.

Sceviour, Panthers agree on three-year contract extension

Red Deer native Colton Sceviour has signed a contract extension with the Florida Panthers.

The three-year deal will see Sceviour make a reported $1.2 million annually.

Lacombe Generals win Allan Cup Hockey West Title over Rosetown

The Lacombe Generals have won the Allan Cup Hockey West league championship after defeating the Red Wings 5-3 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan Saturday.

It was a tussle between the two top teams in the league with the Generals eventually coming out victorious.

The Central Alberta Basketball Club is returning for its third-straight year in 2018. The program aims to grow the game and develop post-secondary caliber players from central Alberta. Tryouts take place April 7 and 8.
