In response to the growing concerns over the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Canadian Hockey League and its three regional leagues – the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League – have announced that the balance of all hockey activity for the remainder of the 2019-20 season has been paused immediately until further notice.

This means that the five remaining games for the Red Deer Rebels, including home games at the Westerner Park Centrium on March 14, 17 and 20, will not be played as scheduled.

CHL President Dan MacKenzie with Commissioners David Branch (OHL), Gilles Courteau (QMJHL), and Ron Robison (WHL) have been monitoring the situation in regards to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) including what local, provincial, and federal health agencies have recommended.

“Following a conference call with the WHL Board of Governors, the Western Hockey League is announcing today that it will pause the 2019-20 WHL season, effective immediately,” Robison said in a statement. “The WHL takes the safety of our players, officials, staff, fans, and everyone associated with the WHL very seriously.
