Four charged in Samson Cree Nation homicide

Four people have been charged following the death of a man on the Samson Cree Nation this week.

At 2:15 a.m. on April 11, RCMP responded to a disturbance complaint at a residence and upon arrival found a man who appeared to be seriously injured. EMS attended and around 2:50 a.m. pronounced the victim, 34-year-old Jonathan Wallace Nepoose deceased.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) took over the investigation with assistance from Red Deer Forensic Identification Section and both Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin RCMP. Five adults were detained at the residence without incident.

On April 12, an autopsy was conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.

Jayson Griffith Soosay, 26 and Percy Levon Soosay, 25, both of Maskwacis have each been charged with second degree murder.

Madison Rochelle Ward, 21 and Taylor Alyssa Threefingers, both of Maskwacis have each been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Mounties say all four accused have been remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court April 17, while the fifth individual initially detained has been released from custody with no charges.

Police say no further investigational details will be provided.
