Drayton Valley RCMP Weekly Report: Sept. 27 – Oct. 4

September 27

At 9:00 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Cemetery Trail in Drayton Valley that was parked at the head of the trail. Members attended and spoke with vehicle occupants. Mounties says the driver had no insurance and open liquor was found. One occupant was arrested for an outstanding warrant and the vehicle was towed.

September 28

At 5:38 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of the theft of a 2015 red Chev Duramax Diesel from the Omniplex Campground in Drayton Valley. Mounties say Onstar was contacted and the vehicle was recovered shortly after. 

At 6:58 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of someone attempting to steal their 2005 Silver GMC Sierra at the Westwind Hotel in Drayton Valley by breaking the door handle and punching out the ignition. Police say the vehicle was locked, the alarm went off and likely scared the culprits away.

September 29

At 3:53 a.m., RCMP attended the Coach Motel in Drayton Valley and located a truck previously stolen from Breton two days prior.

At 6:37 a.m., RCMP responded to the theft of a 1996 Dodge 1 ton dually with welder and 16 foot car hauler taken from the Home Away Inn in Drayton Valley. 

September 30

At 7:19 p.m. Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle and male near a playground at Violet Grove. Mounties say the suspect left prior to their arrival but the vehicle was described as a black crew cab truck.

October 1

At 6:22 a.m., Mounties received a report of a 2000 Ford Royal Expedition motor home being stolen overnight from Country Style Mobile Home Park in Drayton Valley. 

October 2

At 8:38 a.m., RCMP learned of a break and enter to a shed at the back of Rotary House building on 46 Street in Drayton Valley, resulting in damage to the building’s siding.

At 8:43 a.m.,  Mounties received a report of theft from a vehicle on 49 Avenue in Drayton Valley where items such as a Browning hunting bag, 3 orange handled knives, saw rib spreader and 2 sharpeners, life straw, binoculars and Stanley 700 pc socket set were stolen. 

At 9:18 a.m., a school bus driver reported that when they were stopped with red lights flashing at 49 Avenue and Beckett Road in Drayton Valley, a motorist in a silver Dodge Ram truck pulled out and sped past the bus.  The public is reminded that this is an offence and can result in a fine of $465. 

At 10:36 a.m., Two male and two females entered the Canadian Tire store in Drayton Valley and stole items. Police say the suspects were ultimately apprehended and held for bail hearings, adding the persons arrested have been responsible for a rash of shoplifting crimes from Wetaskiwin, Leduc, Whitecourt and other areas.

At 11:25 a.m., officials with Fortis reported vandalism at their property on 62 Street in Drayton Valley where two people cut a hole in their fence and entered the yard in a search for copper wire. 

At 12:02 p.m., an attempted fraud was reported out of Rocky Rapids. Mounties say a resident reported they received a call informing them that the computer program they purchased in August was not working for their computer and they would be issuing a refund of $350. When the complainant checked their bank account, they noted that $3500 had been deposited. They were advised to buy gift cards worth $500 and to return the excess money. 

At 4:04 p.m., a 2011 dark blue Jeep Grand Cherokee was reported stolen sometime overnight from 55 Avenue in Drayton Valley.

October 3

At 1:18 p.m., a complainant reported their 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt was hit by a grey Dodge Caravan while parked in the parking lot of the IGA in Drayton Valley. A witness to the incident provided the description of the suspect vehicle along with a licence plate and the matter is being investigated.

At 4:03 p.m., there was an attempted theft of approximately $2,000 worth of items from the Drayton Valley Walmart which had been placed in a shopping cart. 

October 4

At 7:36 a.m., a vehicle theft was reported out of Rocky Mountain House with the vehicle stopped and driver arrested at the McDonalds in Drayton Valley.
