PEACE RIVER- A man who admitted to killing a pair of high school sweethearts on a northern Alberta reserve has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 13 years.

Edward Devin Boyce Gladue was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the July 2016 deaths of Dylan Laboucan and Cory Grey on the Whitefish First Nation.

According to an agreed statement of facts read in Peace River Court of Queen’s Bench, the 20-year-old man went to the Laboucan family trailer where the two teens lived.

He shot Laboucan in the chest and assaulted and asphyxiated Grey before shooting her in the back of the head at close range.
