Westerner Days Parade cancelled, modified fair to proceed

There will be no Westerner Days Parade in 2021 and details on what the rest of this year’s fair and exposition will look like will be announced later this month.

Westerner Park officials say the decision to cancel the parade was made through consultation with several of the event’s key stakeholders and based on Westerner Park’s continued focus on health and safety.

“This was a difficult decision as the parade is such an important part of our community’s culture. But, with the amount of planning and lead time required for an event like our parade, it just didn’t prove viable this year,” says Mike Olesen, Chief Executive Officer, Westerner Park.

“Westerner Park thanks all of our parade volunteers and participants for their patience and understanding as we weighed our options. We’ll look forward to the future when the parade can be experienced safely and to the same quality level that Red Deer expects.”

Westerner Park says the province’s Open for Summer – Stage 3 announcement on Friday is exciting news for the ability to return to in-person events and host the Westerner Days Fair & Exposition.
