National Day of Mourning ceremony goes Friday at Bower Ponds

Apr 25, 2024 | 11:01 AM

This Friday, the National Day of Mourning will be observed in Red Deer with a ceremony at Bower Ponds.

The annual day falls on Sunday, April 28, but an event is being hosted a couple days earlier to hopefully draw more attendees.

The solemn ceremony is a chance to refocus on efforts to prevent future workplace injuries and deaths, thousands of which occur each year in Canada.

Start time is 11 a.m. at the Bower Ponds stage (4715 Fountain Drive).

The event will be attended by various partners, including the Red Deer & District Labour Council and Parkland Regional Safety Committee.

It also coincides with the annual Steps for Life walk, which goes at Bower Ponds on Saturday, May 4, starting at 11 a.m.

The goal for this year’s Steps for Life is to raise $22,500.
