Roll up your sleeve for BIG 105 and 106.7 THE DRIVE’s Blood-a-thon

Jun 7, 2018 | 12:20 PM

On Monday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., BIG105 and 106.7 The Drive are asking listeners to save a life and donate blood!

It’s as easy as texting blood to 34-DRIVE or 34-60-105 where Canadian Blood Services will call them back ASAP to book an appointment.

The goal is to book 105 and 106 appointments with Canadian Blood Services in Red Deer! Those who book an appointment on Monday will be eligible to win one of many awesome prizes throughout the day!

The Red Deer blood donor clinic’s collection target for June is 1400 units of blood and 15,820 units for 2018. The Red Deer blood donor clinic requires 1900 new donors.

The event is taking place during National Blood Donor Week (June 11-17). This year marks the 10th anniversary of the National Blood Donor Week Act introduced in 2008 to recognize and celebrate volunteer blood donors.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared June 14 of every year as “World Blood Donor Day”, a day to honor blood donors for their voluntary, lifesaving gifts of blood.

Since blood products have a limited shelf life, demand is constant. On average, every 60 seconds someone in Canada needs blood. While all blood types help patients, O-negative blood is in particular demand by hospitals because it is the only type compatible with all other blood types.
