Brazeau County extends solar rebate program

Mar 26, 2019 | 9:55 AM

Brazeau County is offering an all-encompassing energy rebate program for residents to get savings on qualifying home improvements.

The Municipal Energy Efficiency Rebate Program came into effect on April 1, 2018 and was originally only to run until April 30, 2019. However, council has extended the solar rebate portion of the program until December 1, 2019 to provide certainty of funding for applications received by April 30.

Until the end of May, county council will be reviewing the program to ensure its quality and sustainability.

The program encourages residents to keep all of their receipts for products purchased for energy efficiency. They will then be able to receive rebates on things like LED light bulbs, toilets, SMART thermostats, furnaces, insulation, window upgrades and solar energy.

The county committed $10,000 per application for solar incentives to allow residents the option of taking advantage of the Energy Efficiency Alberta Program and save thousands of dollars when installing solar panels.

Officials say by utilizing the program residents can reduce their monthly energy bills and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“It’s an all-encompassing program that gives you great savings on qualifying home improvements. There are rebates regarding energy efficiency and obviously the end goal is to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions,” explains Tamara London, Community Services Grants Administrator for Brazeau County.

“It benefits your wallet and the environment and Brazeau County definitely recognizes that it’s important to focus on energy efficiency, saving water and all of those things.”
