Spring thaw causing water and sewer issues in Blackfalds

Mar 19, 2019 | 10:23 AM

Crews in the Town of Blackfalds are working to resolve some water and sewer issues created from the freeze and thaw conditions this spring.

According to Town officials, record breaking temperatures in February coupled with a quick spring thaw has resulted in the depth of ground frost penetrating deeper than normal and in some instances causing water services or sewer services to freeze.

Officials say residents may be able to detect an issue if a drop in water pressure or no water at all is experienced.

Public Works crews are said to be attending to those affected services as quickly as possible.

Residents or businesses experiencing any water or sewer issues are encouraged to call the Town of Blackfalds Public Works After Hours call line at 403-340-9593.

Officials add, Public Works crews are actively working on thawing services to the homes affected in order of receipt of the calls.

However, any residents that have an issue with their sewer line may need to contact a plumber to have their service thawed.
