Town of Ponoka trims senior management team

Jan 25, 2019 | 12:07 PM

A new management structure is now in place for the Town of Ponoka which aims to improve the organization’s daily operations.

This after the Town underwent an organizational review recently which recommended reducing the senior management team from four directors to two general managers.

Town officials say both will report to the CAO and carry a broader scope of responsibility as they oversee the management of multiple Town departments.

The two General Managers will be Sandra Lund, General Manager of Corporate Services, who was previously Director of Corporate Services; and Tim Schmidt, who will be General Manager of Planning and Infrastructure, and was previously Director of Planning and Development.

“The focus of the organizational review was to ensure we are utilizing our existing staff and management resources as effectively as possible,” says Town of Ponoka Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Albert Flootman, in a press release.

Officials say the new management structure will enhance and streamline the day-to-day management of staff teams and result in more effective implementation of the Town’s strategic direction and enhanced customer service.

“Front line Town staff will have better access to their managers with some managers now having fewer staff reporting to them,” adds Flootman. “This will allow us to provide more responsive and effective customer service.”

Flootman notes the organizational restructuring is being done with existing staff resources and no new budget funding.

The changes went into effect January 24.
