STARS Lottery takes flight for 2019

The 26th edition of the STARS Lottery launched from Red Deer’s Parkland Mall on Thursday, offering up 2,809 prizes valued at over $4.5 million.

The lottery that helps fund thousands of life-saving missions in Alberta each year also offers three grand prize show homes in Edmonton, Calgary and Lethbridge, with an early bird prize of a luxury townhome on Kelowna’s Sunset Drive.

Other prizes include two high-end vehicles or their cash value, five vacation packages and Alberta’s largest 50/50 prize which could see one lucky ticket buyer win up to $2 million.
 

STARS spokesperson Jeffrey Buhr says this year’s goal is to raise $11 million.

“STARS Lottery is so important because it provides funding for the life-saving work that our team does,” he explains. “Without the support from all of our supporters, whether they be donors or lottery ticket purchasers, our team can’t do the work and won’t have the tools they need to do that work without that support.”

STARS VIP (Very Important Patient) Jason Lunn of Lacombe, says he became a STARS patient on January 14, 2011 after the vehicle he was driving was rear-ended by a semi on the QE2 just before the Highway 12 overpass.

“STARS means everything,” states Lunn. “I wouldn’t be here today if they weren’t flying that day. Buy your tickets because you never know when you’re going to need them.”

Lottery ticket prices are one for $30, three for $60, six for $100 and 18 for $250.

Lucky STARS 50/50 tickets are one for $10, five for $25 and 15 for $50.

Officials say the STARS Loyalty Draw takes place Feb.1, with the ticket sales cut-off for the Early Bird Draw on Feb. 28 and the draw itself Mar. 15.

The ticket sales cut-off for the Lucky STARS 50/50 Draw and Final Draws is Mar. 21, with the Lucky STARS 50/50 Draw itself Apr. 4.

Final draws take place April 4, 5, 8 and 9.
