RCMP investigate Penhold hit and run crashes

Jan 8, 2019 | 6:56 AM

Innisfail Mounties are looking for two suspects after a pair of hit and runs in Penhold Monday afternoon, one resulting in minor injuries.

RCMP say the first collision occurred at approximately 1:44 p.m. where two vehicles parked on a residential street in Penhold had been struck and damaged, with pieces of the suspect vehicle left behind at the scene.

Mounties began an investigation into the crash and while patrolling the area, noted a Dodge Ram truck with damages to the front end that appeared to match the suspect vehicle from the hit and run complaint.

RCMP say officers tried to stop the Dodge Ram but it refused to stop. However, due to the driving pattern of the vehicle and public safety concerns, police did not continue to pursue the vehicle.

Police say further patrols led officers to the scene of another collision in Penhold involving the Dodge truck that was observed earlier and another vehicle, a Ford Flex.

Penhold fire crews responded to that crash at the intersection of Minto St. and Robinson Ave. at around 3:45 p.m. A Penhold volunteer firefighter who witnessed the crash gave medical assistance to one of the drivers and helped Mounties with putting out a fire that began on one vehicle.

Police say the occupants of the Dodge truck fled on foot, with RCMP members from Innisfail, Traffic Services, Penhold Peace officers, Red Deer County Peace officers, and Red Deer Police Dog Services joining efforts to contain the area and locate the two male occupants who fled from the Dodge truck.

Attempts to locate the two suspects were unsuccessful.

The investigation has further revealed the suspects fled in a silver Dodge Caravan, with the first suspect described as Caucasian and wearing blue coveralls and a baseball hat.

The second suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his early 20’s and last seen wearing a black baseball hat, black hoody with white lettering up the left sleeve, black pants and having a thin build.

Innisfail RCMP continue to investigate this incident and are interested in any information that will assist them with their efforts. RCMP would also like to thank the public for information received at the time of the incident from witnesses that was of great assistance to police.
