Red Deer Christmas lights tour returns for 15th year

Dec 15, 2018 | 9:07 PM

The Red Deer Christmas lights tour is back.

This year, former City bus driver Jim Elliott has taken a different approach to its design by dividing it into three parts.

“Thinking that the whole route (three hours) might be too much for some, this way people can decide how much time they would like to spend and can pick-and-choose which part of town they want to view,” Elliott says.

“There are many beautiful decorations on houses, both on and off the route in all subdivisions of Red Deer. We were simply unable to cover every one in the light tour. Please feel free to start wherever you like, to fit what works best for you.”

On why he’s kept the tour going after so many years, Elliott says it’s a small thing that can be done to ease the stress people are under nowadays.

“The last couple of years in Alberta — I guess we all know how things have been so tough for people. I know many people and of course we see others on the streets without homes to go to, so it’s just something to try and help the citizens of Red Deer,” Elliott says. “I have lived in the city almost 50 years; I love the place and the people here.”

Elliott highly recommends a close just east of the Michener Centre which is entirely decorated, as well as Ohio Close in Oriole Park, and a couple of ‘incredible’ homes in Bower.
