RED DEER- Stats Canada has released the Red Deer area unemployment numbers for November.

The jobless rate was 5.4 per cent last month, a big drop from the October rate of 6.3%.

The provincial rate last month was also lower at 6.3%, it was 7.3% in October. Alberta reported a net gain of nearly 24,000 new jobs, driven by full-time job growth.

National numbers were also positive, according to Statistics Canada.

The economy created a whopping 94,000 new jobs last month and that knocked the unemployment rate down to 5.6 per cent. That's the lowest jobless level recorded in more than 40-years.

The November employment surge was fuelled by the addition of 89,900 full-time positions - the largest monthly increase since March 2012 when there was a gain of 94,000 jobs.
