Highway pursuit near Lacombe ends with arrest

Nov 28, 2018 | 11:29 AM

A 26-year-old man was arrested and is facing charges after a police chase Tuesday afternoon on the QE II Highway near Lacombe.

It was just before 3 p.m. when a Blackfalds RCMP officer saw a vehicle driving erratically on the highway and attempted a traffic stop.  The vehicle did not stop and given the dangerous driving pattern a pursuit was declared.  The Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit was called in and the pursuit came to an end at about 3:08 p.m. when police say the vehicle drove into the east ditch south of Highway 12 and became stuck.

The male driver, and lone occupant, of the vehicle was taken into police custody without further incident. Mounties say he is facing driving-related charges.

During this incident, the speeds of the vehicle on the highway were between 60 – 80 km/hr.  Traffic was delayed behind the police vehicles for the duration of this pursuit.
