Runners Stewart, Hope claim RDC Athlete of the Week honours

Jill Stewart and Matthew Hope are the latest Red Deer College Athletics Boston Pizza Athletes of the Week.

Stewart had another magnificent performance at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross Country Running Championships last Saturday in Vermilion. She played an integral role in providing leadership and helping the RDC Queens earn a team silver medal.

The third-year student-athlete from Red Deer was the fastest member of the Queens, earning individual bronze on the 6 km course which sealed a spot on the All-Conference team.

Hope had an exceptional 8 km race and led the way for the RDC Kings, helping them capture team silver.

The Bachelor of Education Secondary student crossed the finish line third, locking up a bronze medal and a spot on the All-Conference team.

With the silver medal wins at the ACAC championships, the RDC Queens and Kings qualified for the 2018 CCAA Cross Country Running National Championships at Seneca College’s King Campus (north of Toronto).
