Illness delays trial in fatal Red Deer area crash

A sudden illness has resulted in the delay of a trial for a Red Deer man charged in a fatal Canada Day crash that killed two teens two years ago.

Monday morning, Assistant Chief Crown Prosecutor Dominique Mathurin requested an adjournment in the trial for Dylan Beauclair, telling Court of Queen’s Bench Judge Monica Bast that Crown Prosecutor Ann Siford has taken ill and would not be able to proceed with the three-day trial.

As a result, the trial has been rescheduled for January 16-18, 2019 with a new Crown Prosecutor anticipated to take over the file in the next couple of weeks.

Beauclair, 20, is charged with dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm in the July 1, 2016 incident.
