Oct 15, 2018 | 10:36 AM

A young man accused in the sexual assault of a young girl in Red Deer on Canada Day will face a preliminary hearing.

Darrien Francis Nepoose, 18, is charged with aggravated sexual assault. He was charged on July 2 and arrested three days later at a residence in north Red Deer.

RCMP began their investigation on July 2 after receiving a report of an aggravated sexual assault the previous night on a 14-year-old female who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Mounties said the victim was known to the suspect. No further details have been released in order to protect the privacy of the victim, which is under publication ban.
