Sep 19, 2018 | 7:05 AM

RED DEER COUNTY- The County has once again received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2018-2020 budget.

The international award recognizes outstanding budget presentation and documentation.

The document lays out all Capital and Operating expenditures for the County, and details how tax dollars are used to provide services for ratepayers.

The budget contains both detailed and summary breakdowns of funding sources, policies, and highlights finances over a multi-year timeline.

The GFOA is based in Chicago, and is the chief body for over 18,000 elected local, state, and provincial-level government finance officials.

Before a municipality can receive the award, a copy of their budget document must be sent to the Association, where it undergoes a series of reviews by experts in the field of Government finance.

Heather Surkan, Corporate Services Director for Red Deer County added, “We are extremely proud of the team effort that went into winning this award. Once again, Red Deer County has shown a true commitment to responsible and transparent budgeting. This award is a vote of confidence in the processes Red Deer County has in place to ensure that ratepayers are getting a clear view of County finances.”
