Grayson Pawlenchuk will be continuing his hockey career close to home.

The former Red Deer Rebels captain has signed on to play U-Sports hockey with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Pawlenchuk spent his entire five-year WHL career with the Rebels. After being selected by the club in the fourth round of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft he went on to play 282 regular season games, collecting 60 goals and 84 assists for 144 points.

The 21-year-old Ardrossan native battled through several injuries during his time with the Rebels. His grit, determination and prowess at both ends of the rink made him a favorite amongst coaches and fans.
