Eight dogs have been seized from a hotel room in Innisfail.

Innisfail RCMP say they received a complaint of a suspicious female around 11:30 p.m. on July 17 (Tuesday) at the Blue Bird Motel on 42 Avenue. She reportedly had the dogs in her possession while in violation of a court order to not possess any animals.

During a separate investigation, Innisfail Mounties say they received a complaint of a female posing as a law enforcement professional asking questions of a dog owner about her dog and allegedly trying to take it.

Karin Adams, 46, of no fixed address was arrested and charged with mischief, personating a peace officer, fail to obtain dog license (eight counts), driving motor vehicle without holding a valid license, trespassing and harboring more than three dogs.

Adams was released by a justice of the peace with multiple conditions including a prohibition from owning, having the custody or control of or residing in the same premise of any animal. She is scheduledt to attend Red Deer provincial court on July 31.

All of the dogs seized have been turned over to Klassic Kennels for proper care and health examination. Innisfail Mounties say seven of the eight dogs were lawfully owned by Adams as she either purchased the dogs on private sale or were given the dogs by previous owners.

In light of this incident, the RCMP is encouraging anyone looking to re-home a pet to conduct a thorough background check prior to giving anyone your pet.

According to CBC News, Adams was under a 20-year ban from owning animals after 2014 incident in B.C. in which officials seized 18 horses, 18 dogs, 15 birds, two cats and 104 fish. Her daughter, Catherine, was also convicted on animal cruelty charges earlier this year in Alberta.
