The Lending Cupboard preparing for move to new location

Jul 5, 2018 | 2:07 PM

The Lending Cupboard is forging ahead with its planned August 1 moving date.

The organization which lends out medical equipment announced in May they’d be relocating from the downtown area to a larger building on the north end.

Part of the announcement was also to share they were setting out on a $500,000 fundraising campaign.

Executive Director Dawna Morey says with the move just weeks away, work is still going full-tilt to bring in more donors.

“We’re continuing to reach out to the community, and hopefully the community sees the value in what’s happening with The Lending Cupboard,” she says. “Ongoing costs continue to go up and we know that this year when we finish all of our stats and reports, we’ll have helped over 10,000 people in central Alberta.”

Morey says they’re currently working on projects like installing racking for their equipment and upgrading they sanitary equipment in advance of the start of August.

Interior work on the new facility at Gaetz Avenue and 78 Street should soon be completed and a grand opening is scheduled for later this summer.

Emphasising why people should support them, Morey adds, “If we haven’t touched families yet, we know at some point in their lives we will.”
