Sunshine graces Mayor’s Garden Party at City Hall Park

Sunshine and beautiful temperatures graced Red Deer’s City Hall Park on Wednesday for the annual Mayor’s Garden Party, held each year to celebrate local seniors.

The event is part of Seniors Month in Red Deer and Alberta.

“We start out our annual Seniors Month with free admission for seniors at recreation amenities throughout the community,” says Mayor Veer. “We culminate at the end of the month with the Mayor’s Garden Party. It’s purpose is to honour Red Deer seniors, it’s to give seniors an outing and of course all Red Deerians are welcome to join us in historic City Hall Park Gardens today.”

Amongst the refreshments and entertainment, Veer says the Mayor‘s Garden Party also provides City staff and council the opportunity to interact with local seniors informally.

“Approximately 500 to 600 people attend the Mayor’s Garden Party on an annual basis,” adds Veer. ”Our purpose is of course to build community life and to encourage people to engage community life. The message we hope for them to take away is first and foremost that we’re grateful for the contributions of seniors, that we want to honour them as a community and that they matter to The City of Red Deer.”
