Lacombe residents being warned of fraudulent fundraising for firefighters

Residents in Lacombe are being warned of a fire department fundraising fraud taking place throughout the province, including in their community.

Officials with the City of Lacombe, Lacombe Fire Department and Lacombe Firefighters Association say several fire departments across Alberta in fact have been the subject of fraudulent fundraising activities in recent weeks.

Reports indicate individuals have been calling residents identifying themselves as a member of the local fire department and are seeking cash donations for the fire department’s fundraising efforts.

In all instances so far, it’s said the fire departments mentioned were not conducting any fundraising and do not raise funds in this way.

As a result, RCMP in each affected community have been notified and their investigations remain ongoing.
