Big 105 and The Drive Garage Sale nets over $2,500 for Ronald McDonald House of Central Alberta

Local garage salers helped out a great cause and made off with some sweet deals at the Big 105 and The Drive Garage Sale on Saturday.

Event organizers say $2,543.15 has been given to Ronald McDonald House of Central Alberta, thanks to residents donating their unwanted items for the sale and seeing the proceeds raised given to the local charity.

Participants could also choose to rent a table for $25, keep the profits themselves and see the table rental fee go to Ronald McDonald House.

Jamie Rankin, Program Director for Big 105 says along with The Drive and rdnewsNow.com, they are very happy to make this event a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House.

“We put together a little garage sale or so we thought and it turned out to be quite massive,” says Rankin. “We filled two giant storage containers full of donated items over the last couple of weeks, we filled up two or three of our own promo closets and people have been very generous. We actually had to stop accepting donations this week and told a few people to swing by today and drop it off.”

Rankins adds support from the community has simply been amazing.

“I know how garage sales work, there’s usually a lot of bartering going on and a lot of negotiating and it’s actually been reverse negotiating,” exclaims Rankin. “We’ve been saying ‘It’s a dollar fifty’ and they’ve been saying “Ah, we’ll give you five, we’ll call it even’, so people are more than happy to pay a little extra.”

“We hope people take away some great deals and we hope they are very happy to give to Ronald McDonald House Charities,” concludes Rankin. “They’re an excellent partner for us, we love working with them and we’re happy to see it’s been very successful and we’re looking forward to doing it again next year.”
