Conditional sentence for Red Deer man who gave Airdrie youth cocaine

May 23, 2018 | 10:30 AM

A Red Deer man charged with providing cocaine to youth in Airdrie has been handed a conditional sentence.

Shawn Milton Payne, 48, was charged after a youth was taken to hospital in Airdrie in March 2017 after overdosing on drugs.

RCMP said at the time that an adult male had given two youth some drugs and alcohol then tried to extort another person in a bid to cover up his actions.

Payne appeared in Airdrie provincial court last week and pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and attempted obstruction of justice. He was given a conditional one year sentence on each count.
