Family Day events will be popping up around Drayton Valley on Monday for citizens to take part in.

Activities will be running on the 19th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with shuttles running every 20 minutes taking residents from the Omniplex to the Valley Pool and Aspen Waste Management Facility.

At the Omniplex public skating will be offered as well as a free day gym pass. The Park Valley Pool activities includes regular admission public swimming.

Over at the Aspen Waste Management Facility there will be a string of activities, including a BBQ, tobogganing, face painting, horse & wagon rides and a remote control rock truck demo.

The Eagle-Point Blue Rapids Park Council will be holding their own event as well, with a walk/snowshoe on the Rotary-Pembina South Trail. The wintry walk event will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Family Day was first celebrated in Alberta in 1990, with then Premier Don Getty saying it was important for Albertans to spend time with their families, and that this holiday would emphasize the importance of family values.
