Innisfail RCMP lay numerous charges after attempted traffic stop

INNISFAIL- A young man and woman face charges following an attempted traffic stop and ensuing chase through Innisfail.

On July 31 at approximately 1 a.m., RCMP attempted to stop a pickup near the Innisfail Fas Gas.

When officers approached the truck, the driver sped away at a high rate of speed into a residential area.

Police did not pursue due to public safety.

Shortly after, the truck was spotted again and the driver ended up striking a curb and disabled the vehicle.

The driver and passenger then fled on foot but were arrested shortly after.

RCMP confirmed that the pickup was stolen and upon further investigation discovered stolen identification cards, bank cards, and cheques.

James Riley, 26, from Red Deer faces charges including possession of stolen property, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and resisting arrest.

Riley remains in custody and appears in Red Deer Provincial Court on Friday.

Katelin Cunningham, 25, from Innisfail is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a controlled substance, obstructing police and forgery.

Cunningham also appears in Red Deer court on Friday.
