Didsbury RCMP have charged a 57-year-old man after he allegedly broke into a home armed with a knife.

Police say on Nov. 3, they arrested Benjamin Douglas, 57, of Didsbury at a residence in town on several charges, including robbery, break and enter a dwelling house, disguise with intent to commit an offence, uttering threats, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

It was on May 21, 2026, at approximately 7:37 p.m. when Didsbury RCMP responded to a home invasion.

Police say a man wearing a surgical mask allegedly entered the victim’s residence armed with a knife.

The victim was inside at the time, and the suspect demanded money and her phone. The suspect then allegedly threatened her with bodily harm before fleeing the scene on foot.

That night, police surrounded the area but were unable to locate the man.

The scene was examined, and an article of clothing worn by the suspect was located nearby.

The item was later sent for DNA analysis, which led to the identity of the suspect.

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing (JIR), Douglas was remanded and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on Nov. 4.
