WHL, OHL clubs to compete in Moustache Cup

Oct 29, 2026 | 4:48 PM

In the campaign’s 20th year, the Red Deer Rebels will be part of a new initiative that the WHL and OHL are launching with Movember.

The Moustache Cup, as it’s known, will be competed for throughout November and will go to whichever team raises the most money, with one title for each league.

“The WHL is excited to be joining the Moustache Cup competition with the Ontario Hockey League and Movember,” commented WHL Commissioner Dan Near.

“While we take great pride in our player education and player support programs, Moustache Cup provides the opportunity for WHL players to give back to the community and contribute to the conversation surrounding a very important cause – men’s health.”

Todd Minerson with Movember Canada says too many men are dying too young from preventable causes.

“The impact of poor men’s health extends far beyond the individual to families and communities,” said Minerson.

“Hockey has a unique way of bringing people together and opening the door to conversations that might not happen anywhere else. Through the Moustache Cup, OHL and WHL teams are using that connection to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, while helping create a culture where young men feel more comfortable talking about their health and looking out for one another.”

Since 2003, Movember’s community has raised almost $2 billion CAD, funding over 1,320 projects in mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
