The building has historical significance as it was built in 1910 and is one of Red Deer’s oldest manufacturing buildings. It was also used as a courthouse from 1916 to 1930.

They added that the applicant has applied for a dynamic sign to allow residential real estate marketing.

The dynamic fascia sign has already been constructed on the south façade of the building without a development permit. A stop order was issued on May 13, 2026, and the sign was turned off.

Afterwards, the landowner applied for a site exception, which administration did not recommend approving.

Now that it’s approved, the applicant can apply for a development permit for the existing sign to be considered by the development authority.
