Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery to host free gathering on NDTR

A new addition to the event this year is attendees are invited to take part in a community film where participants can sit in front of a camera and answer questions that explore the meaning of living on Treaty 6 and 7 lands. The footage will then be used in the museum’s “We Are All Treaty People” exhibit, which will open on December 4.

“I really hope people will come, learn from what we’ve put together, and take a few minutes to contribute to the film,” said Chandra Kastern, Executive Director of the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery. “I think a part of truth and reconciliation is honouring and acknowledging the fact that we are all treaty people. The exhibit we are mounting can only tell our community’s story if our community is in it – a few words from you is a piece of that story. We are grateful to the City of Red Deer, whose Community Culture Development Fund has helped make this work possible.”

Organizers say that everyone is welcome to attend the event.

“Thank you to the Government of Canada’s Commemorate Canada program for supporting this gathering,” said Miranda Cardinal, Executive Director of the Urban Indigenous Voices Society. “When we work together in a good way, good things come of it. This day is what that looks like: a whole community being together, sharing food, and listening to one another.”
