Tenants of 24 units at risk as City makes decision on federal housing dollars
There’s some good news, and there’s some bad news this week, as it pertains to Red Deer’s housing situation.
Positively speaking, the City of Red Deer and city council have taken a big step towards allocating the $3 million in federal Housing Accelerator Funding it was allowed to keep.
On the flip side, the city says it is looking to sell 24 duplexes it owns in the neighbourhoods of Oriole Park, West Park, and Highland Green, and that could have a significantly detrimental impact on the people currently living in them.
The 24 properties in question are owned by the city but managed by Bridges Community Living, which has offered tenancy in the homes for the last year under the Community Housing Program (CHP).
