Penhold man charged with child sexual exploitation offences

A Penhold man has been charged following an investigation by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation unit.

Police say 46-year-old Scott McNabb was arrested on July 9 and charged with possessing, accessing, and distributing child sexual abuse and exploitation materials.

Their investigation was in relation to online offences; however, ALERT reports that McNabb was a coach and board member with the Penhold Minor Soccer Association.

He was also previously a children’s entertainer and mascot.

“This suspect was identified after a proactive effort by our ICE investigators to target offenders who were trading high volumes of child sexual exploitation materials online,” said Staff Sergeant Gordon MacDonald.

The investigation began in January 2026 and focused on child sexual exploitation materials being distributed online.

ALERT explained that the investigation will remain ongoing as forensic technicians will begin analyzing computers seized from McNabb’s home in Penhold.

He was released from custody on several court-imposed conditions, including not to be in contact with anyone under the age of 16 years old.

He is set to appear in Red Deer Court of Justice on July 30.

Police encourage anyone with information to contact local police or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).
