Under the theme “Step Into Your Power,” nine graduates crossed the stage at West Country Outreach School on May 23 in Rimbey during a heartfelt graduation and awards ceremony.

Surrounded by proud family members, friends, staff and community supporters at Keyera Place, the graduates were celebrated not only for earning their diplomas but also for the perseverance, courage and determination that brought them to this milestone.

Principal Alva Holliday opened the ceremony by recognizing the journeys many students and families have taken to reach graduation day.

“Today we are here to celebrate your kids and indeed, our kids,” said Holliday. “For some, school, and indeed life, were just too hard. For some, change meant hope.”

Holliday reflected on the important role relationships and support systems play within the Outreach environment, thanking families and caregivers for placing their trust in the school and continuing to believe in their children through difficult moments.

“When I say to students and families, ‘Welcome to West Country Outreach,’ I am saying that we are committed to you, and together we will ensure the success of every child,” she said. “Because you took a leap of courage, we are here today.”

Wolf Creek Public Schools Superintendent of Schools Tim De Ruyck also congratulated the graduates, commending them for demonstrating resilience and determination throughout their educational journeys.

“You have each demonstrated grit and determination, and your ability to see a task through to completion,” said De Ruyck. “These skills will continue to serve you well in your future lives.”

De Ruyck encouraged graduates to embrace change and uncertainty as they move into the next chapter of their lives, noting the rapidly evolving world they are entering.

“We live in a time of continuous change,” he said. “Sometimes it’s hard to predict what is around the corner, but that is what can make life so exciting.”

He also reminded students of the importance of balance and wellness as they pursue future goals and opportunities.

“Having fun and enjoying the ride is important, and the journey you are on is a marathon, not a sprint,” he said.

Throughout the ceremony, the Class of 2026 was celebrated for their unique strengths, accomplishments and growth. The day reflected the supportive and personalized approach that defines West Country Outreach School, while highlighting the bright futures awaiting each graduate.
